Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to Eastern Europe or the Balkans, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template. If you have questions, please contact me or ask at the Arbitration Committee Clerks Noticeboard. Mellk (talk) 18:43, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

Help wanted!

I'm looking for some feedback on this draft article. In the past, it's been suggested that it needs more biographical content, but it's also more about the science behind the subject's research. I'm not sure where the greater effort should be directed to get it accepted as a WP article. Henrilebec (talk) 07:48, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- I've just answered (sort of) this at the Teahouse; please don't ask for help in more than one place at a time.
- Draft:Gerald Louis Burke is a biographical article, and should therefore mainly focus on the person, while also giving some idea of his professional or scientific contributions to make it clear why he warrants a Wikipedia article.
- If you wish to write about the subject of his research, be it orthopaedic surgery or something else, then you should write an entirely different article which talks about that subject and not about this person (although if he is genuinely pioneering in this field, he could certainly be mentioned in such an article). Of course, an article on orthopaedic surgery already exists, so in that sense the point I've just made is rather redundant. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:37, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks - the article was originally about the dramatic research that resulted in the successful use of tantalum implants in human surgery, but the critics said that it needed to be more biographical, to discuss the lives of the researchers. Now it's too biographical. Which is correct?. Any ideas? (I'm not a Wikipedia expert) Henrilebec (talk) 23:13, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hi @Henrilebec: I think it could more specialised links and possible and possibly more section. Big wall of text on a small article. Hope that helps. scope_creepTalk 11:46, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank-you, help is appreciated, but I don't understand what you are saying. I'm not an expert at Wikipedia. I'm simply trying to explain a piece of medical history. Henrilebec (talk) 19:24, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
