Managing a conflict of interest
[edit] Hello, GatorBoyColibri. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Florida Gulf Coast University, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the Edit Request Wizard), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. –Skywatcher68 (talk) 19:38, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hello! I am an employee of the Fraternity & Sorority Life Office at Florida Gulf Coast University, but was not compensated to update the page. I just wanted to add more under Greek life on my own time because I felt it was very lackluster compared to the information we have. I also ensured all organizations and councils are mentioned. Please let me know if the context still prohibits me from making changes. Best. GatorBoyColibri (talk) 22:04, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- I also wanted to make an amendment since I see the comment attached to your undo is that this is not a recruitment brochure. If that is the issue, I'd be more than happy to remove the "Joining Greek Life" portion but leave all the other information on the different councils and organizations. I just figured that intake procedures is part of the information. This is also my first edit, so I apologize if I went about it the wrong way. GatorBoyColibri (talk) 22:33, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- As far as Wikipedia is concerned, simply being employed by the FSLO is a problem. Rather than edit the article directly, please propose edits at Talk:Florida Gulf Coast University under Template: Edit COI (instructions for which are here) and let disinterested third parties decide if your edit(s) merit inclusion or provide feedback if not. –Skywatcher68 (talk) 03:51, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
