- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References== {{Reflist}}

[edit] Hi Nayem Aulindo! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of an article several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.
All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you., Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 13:38, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, Thank you for messaging me directly. I have noticed that many Indians only know Jagadish Chandra Bose as an Indian and they don't know even know that he was born in Bangladesh. I know that then almost whole subcontinent, including had been part of British empire as a colony. As a bengali I know a separate long historical, economic, cultural heritage of independent Bengal during Pala empire, Sena dynasty,Bengal Sultanate,Nawabs of Bengal. Which was ended with Battle of Plassy. I think we shouldn't make him British now just because then it was under British Empire and he lived several years in Britain. Similarly, I think it isn't completely accurate to make him Indian because then it was part of British India. Though it might not be completely wrong as Indian might have several meanings. But I think it should be known that he wasn't just Indian in terms of present day Map as he is deeply connected with all Bangladesh, West Bengal and Bihar.
- So I had made little changes to ensure that it can be known by all and maybe you seeing my edit edited more.
- Thinking about several aspects I am confused because he died before departure of the British.
- I personally like him and I realized that his biography for me repeatedly. I don't want history of someone like him gets altered or lost for in this dispute for me. So I think it should not be continued. My edit is undone and if you have edited in response of my edit you may undone it yourself. Nayem Aulindo (talk) 15:26, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
- maybe the last edit wasn't done by you. It was done by someone like Gabitbro maybe in response of my edit and so I had undone that. I think his edit should also be undone to finish this dispute. Can you do that? Nayem Aulindo (talk) 15:46, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Gotitbro If you have done this in response of my edit then I think you should undo it yourself and end this dispute. Nayem Aulindo (talk) 16:37, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry, your edits are against enwiki policy. The infobox contains the territories as they existed at the time of the person's birth in this case British India (Raj being the government). See {{Infobox person}} for further information.
- Wikipedia is not a place for ethnic WP:POVPUSH and certainly not the anachronistic nationalism that your edits evince. See that Talk page for further consensus on the wording for the WP:LEAD etc. Moreover we follow WP:3PARTY and WP:SECONDARY WP:RS which contain exactly the things you are trying to remove/alter.
- Please desist. Gotitbro (talk) 17:22, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
- If you didn't do it for me then it's okay. I had previously seen several pages having (now, modern name) in infobox and so I added it here. If it's against policy then I would accept it. But I don't want any changes is made here in response of my edit., Nayem Aulindo (talk) 18:13, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Gotitbro
- Can you please tell me how is present day name of the territory written in infobox in page of former president of India?
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._P._J._Abdul_Kalam , Nayem Aulindo (talk) 04:36, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- That ideally should not be there but can also depend on a local (article) consensus. But what you did was not remove present-day locales but the territory as it existed at the time of his birth (British India). This is simply not done. Gotitbro (talk) 04:44, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- @GotitbroWhen I had edited that then there had been Mymensingh, Bengal Presidency. I didn't add or delete (British India) as it was not still added.
- My edit which he had undone was valid as it is true and exactly available in articles.
- For example: https://www.britannica.com/biography/Jagadish-Chandra-Bose
- But I didn't know there is need to explain edit in wikipedia., Nayem Aulindo (talk) 06:03, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Locations (birth/death etc.) for persons in infoboxes follow this formula: [City/town etc.]/[Second-level division]/[Country].
- Some users tend to add present-day locales but that is not by guideline. Whether to add it is usually discussed on an article's Talk page which is what you should do and start a discussion. Gotitbro (talk) 06:25, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
