Inappropriate comment

[edit]

Every day I pray for the destruction of this project. I'm not trolling. I really feel that way. Diff. Do you think it's a good idea to go around saying things like this? cc @Reaper Eternal and Voorts: who commented on this page during your unblock request. –Novem Linguae (talk) 03:34, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It's a true statement. I can pray for whatever I choose. My intention was to keep those prayers between the Creator and me. Perhaps I should have held back. There is no policy against making such a comment on this site. I acknowledge it was not the kindest thing to say. That's more than I can say of some of the people who have said unkind things to me in the (now distant) past. I will not object if someone wants to put a strikethrough on those sentences and let the rest of it stand. Please don't disqualify the entire comment and pretty please don't block me. I was banned for a very long time and had to fight very hard so that my future professional prospects would not be put at risk. Quite honestly, I recognize based on the matter under discussion, that editing any controversial area puts my future professional reputation at risk. That's one of the reasons I almost never edit anymore. The other is I just don't have time. I'm in my 40's now and I have a job and a family to support. Can we just put out this spark before it spreads and becomes a wildfire. Again, you have my permission to strike out the offending sentences from the thread. P.S. I am going to sleep now (it's almost midnight here) and will not be answering any further replies until tomorrow. Chutznik (talk) 03:41, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a reason why you think that way? Also, this is a topic ban violation. Children Will Listen (🐄 talk, 🫘 contribs) 05:41, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ChildrenWillListen. If you're referring to this, it doesn't look like this editor is topic banned. Looks like an A-I topic ban was proposed, but that the unblock proceeded without it. –Novem Linguae (talk) 09:14, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, it seems that's a voluntary topic ban rather than an unblock condition. Children Will Listen (🐄 talk, 🫘 contribs) 09:16, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I believe blocking you for this would be quite ridiculous. That AfD is really heated and the stakes are high for a lot of voting editors. Zanahary 18:00, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ChildrenWillListen It's in the past now. I don't want to talk about it. Suffice it to say I have been here long enough to remember Essjay leaving and, despite that, I feel people were kinder then as compared to now. Thank you all for agreeing that I can stick around. I'll let out another secret (and I may regret saying this too), that I opposed every single candidate at the recent administrator election. It was harmless, since nobody failed (or passed) by only one vote. Chutznik (talk) 00:30, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Opposing admin candidates is fine. Saying you want this place destroyed makes me distrust you though. Why are you here if you want to cause damage and harm? –Novem Linguae (talk) 07:26, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think if they actually sought to cause damage, we would easily find something to complain about besides an expressed personal sentiment at an AfD. Zanahary 11:37, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Novem Linguae: I don't see how this is relevant. People aren't required to like the project or even to want it to succeed. People are free to have their own personal opinions on the quality, accuracy, and usefulness of Wikipedia. We can't, and shouldn't, be the thought police, especially for an overly-theatrical comment at a contentious AFD.
Chutznik, on the off chance Wikipedia is seriously making you "pray every day for the destruction of this project", perhaps editing this project isn't in your best interests. Life's too short to be filled with that much frustration. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 14:00, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm essentially done here for purposes of long editing sessions nad article creation. Just came to fix an apostrophe. You get the idea. Chutznik (talk) 18:45, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
