"D"eputy First Minister
[edit]Hi there! Thank you for your contributions! However, current consensus resulting from this discussion is that the "D" in "Deputy First Minister" should remain capitalized (except in cases where a title would not be capitalized under MOS:JOBTITLES. This is reflective of usage in reliable secondary sources, see BBC[1] (Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister, Emma Little-Pengelly), for example. Also, I've noticed you've left notes citing the Good Friday Agreement's explanation for the lowercase title. However, the GFA actual uses the title with an upper case "D" in "Deputy", see here [2]. I understand that Northern Ireland's government may use a lowercase "d", but Wikipedia is based on secondary sources and the NI government is a primary source, so it is given less weight. All of this is basically a summation of the discussion which resulted in the current practice. I hope this helps you understand why some of your edits making these changes have been reverted, I've also left a note on the pages in questions so other editors can understand as well. Happy editing! estar8806 (talk) ★ 02:26, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello. I am incorrect in saying the GFA. It is actually written with a 'd' in the Northern Ireland Act 1998, See also Belfast Telegraph for explaination. There are many examples of which the 'd' in deputy First Minister

- Stormont recruitment for Irish Sea border role was ‘hugely politically embarrassing’' for DUP deputy first minister - The Irish News.
- Secretary of State meets First and deputy First ministers - GOV.UK (this is technically a secondary source, as the British Government is not the NI Devolved Government.)
