Help me!

[edit]

Hi,

I am having some issues on the page Avi Loeb. There have been repeated attempts by WP:SPA IP and temp accounts trying to remove material critical of Loeb and add promotional material to his page, going back at least a year, as long as I have been editing the page.

This has included multiple instances of removing criticism from the page while leaving misleading edit summaries.

Most recently, a temporary account reverted one of my edits with a misleading and borderline abusive edit summary (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Avi_Loeb&diff=prev&oldid=1322239850). They called a constructive edit, discussed on the talk page:

Speculative, Innacurate, misleading, leading, altogether irrevelent information. Avi Loeb has never claimed aliens exist or anything of the nature. He simply admits the possibility should be taken seriously. The inclusion of these deleted sections are intended to make Avi look bad. Plain and simple. Strange cherry picked data with no relevance besides to ostracize and ridicule

I have no direct evidence of this, but given the long running pattern of behavior, singular focus, first name basis with Loeb and the fact that the IP geolocates to Boston (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/173.76.100.246) I suspect some kind of CoI editing.

I have left a comment on the article talk page, as well as a talkback on their user talk and a dummy edit to try and direct them to the talk page. Practically, is there anything to be done here?

CamAnders, I'm not inclined to do anything about this administratively, since those previous IP edits are from quite a while ago indeed and you're doing fine discussing this on the talk page so far. The present temporary account has only made the one edit and may never return, but I see you've given them a talkback notice, so if they do, they should be able to find your comments and start a discussion. If they continue to fall short of WP:CIVIL, you can report them for being a jerk at WP:ANI. There are enough other editors involved on this article that I don't think you'll end up in a one-sided edit war against an unregistered editor. -- asilvering (talk) 07:25, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the speedy reply!

ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:43, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

He was deemed acceptable for a WP page 17 years ago, but during the intervening years, most of the links supporting his prominence have decayed into oblivion. I'll need a few days to find fresh links.

Do they typically close an AfD promptly - even if someone is valiantly laboring to save the article? --Uncle Ed (talk) 17:49, 19 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
