Reverted edits on The Magicians (U.S. TV series)

[edit]

I realised that you have reverted the edits I have made on The Magicians (U.S. TV series). Could you further explain why? The links were repeated and therefore unnecessary, so I believe that there is a reason for me to unlink. I didn't delete links that were duplicated, only those that were repeated three times. See WP:REPEATLINK. The Average Wikipedian (talk) 13:34, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@The Average Wikipedian: That's fair enough reasoning, and I understand where you're coming from. However, I was basing the layout on Person of Interest (TV series), which lists the cast member in all 3 of those spots. I understand that it looks odd without much content separating those sections (there's a big plot description in PoI), but I figure that eventually, there will be, so I might as well set it up that way from the beginning. ACB Smith (talk) 14:40, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, one of those sets of links is in the sidebar, which WP:REPEATLINK says not to include, and another is in a list, which I think is close enough to a table (also mentioned) that it's a matter of personal taste. ACB Smith (talk) 14:43, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Black Sheep (film)

[edit]

Hello, I see you moved the page The Black Sheep (film) to The Black Sheep (1968 film) with the rationale "Too many other films named "Black sheep"; this is not certainly the most prominent" so I remind you of WP:SMALLDETAILS: while we have other films named "Black sheep", we have only a single film named "The Black Sheep". In cases potentially controversial like these, while you are not necessarily wrong, as a minimum the next time you should start a move request. Also, now there are a dozen of incoming articles which incorrectly link to the disambiguation page ([1]), please remember to fix them when you move a page. Bye, Cavarrone 06:09, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Shit, I forgot to fix all the links. Thanks for the reminder. Duly noted about the move request. ACB Smith (talk)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dreams of Gods and Monsters, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Romance. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Standard Ebooks' "Short Stories" by Wells is not "The complete short fiction"

[edit]

Hi,

I noticed External Links added by you to Standard Ebooks' "Short Fiction by H. G. Wells" on various pages, where you describe it as "The complete short fiction".

This is incorrect - it's not a complete collection. For example, it doesn't include The Land Ironclads, and yet you linked to it.

I went over all the pages that mention it. All of the story pages that link to it are correct, except The Land Ironclads, and Select Conversations with an Uncle (I already removed its mention from that one).

Anyway, I think all of the references should be edited to just say "Short Fiction" instead of "The complete short fiction".

I also opened an issue with Standard Ebooks, asking if the Land Ironclads can be included, even though it wasn't in any of the original collections they used as the source for it. --salty-horse (talk) 08:13, 17 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Salty,
This is an interesting one - I can see from the original discussion that there was a spreadsheet made of all the stories, but that is no longer publicly available online. It's in the public domain and doesn't meet the SE word cutoff for an individual production, so it really should be in that volume.
I'll follow up with that on the mailing list and see if I can get something figured out; it might be as simple as me adding it to the volume.
Smith(talk) 09:25, 17 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for working to add it. Here's the ISFDB entry for the story, if you want to track down its publication history.
Even if were to be included, it's still wrong for Wikipedia to describe this collection as "The complete short fiction", as I think it focuses only on his science fiction. salty-horse (talk) 07:11, 18 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've added that story to the volume now, and I'm going to check that it's not missing anything else.
It's definitely not just focusing on his science fiction - it includes romances and tropical adventures, to quote from the description. It might be better to describe it as "The complete public domain short fiction" if it turns out that there are stories not included in it for reasons of publication date, but it's intended to be an omnibus of everything that is under 40k words and thus considered too short for its own production. I don't yet properly know if that is the case, so will do some research. Smith(talk) 08:11, 18 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I read somewhere that Standard Ebooks's policity is to have their collections be only of stories of the same "style", but I can't find it now (the website only mentions works being of the same length/type.)
Anyway, thanks! :) salty-horse (talk) 19:08, 18 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That sometimes happens when there is a massive corpus with distinct divisions, like with PG Wodehouse who wrote approximately one billion short stories, so they're divided into Jeeves stories and golf stories and the like.
Could I interest you in helping me figure out what other short stories might need to be added to the HG Wells omnibus?
