I do not think its actual vandalism. They appear to be forcing these Filipino diaspora players' birth place's naming conventions (Germany, England, etc.) on them even if their full names still follows Philippine naming conventions. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 15:23, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Hariboneagle927 I believe you because my edit is not vandalism, since many Filipino people with mixed heritage may or may not use Filipino style naming convention. 182.253.54.112 (talk) 12:10, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Adakiko this is not a vandalism, man! It was just a fixing. 182.253.54.112 (talk) 12:02, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Frankly a misguided one if I'm being tactful. A diaspora-born player can follow his native country's naming convention rather than his birth country. Especially a national team player. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 17:47, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

My apology for my erroneous warning. Most sources list him as "Rob Gier", a few do use "Dazo Gier". Even his LinkedIn page uses "Rob Gier". Is the use of {{British barrelled name}} appropriate here? Restore it if you feel it is. @Hariboneagle927: Thank you Adakiko (talk) 18:08, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Adakiko yes it is appropriate to use british barrelled name because many british people use british barreled name, to indicate parents of both sides respectively. 182.2.165.141 (talk) 04:39, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do not think so. Most articles about Gier don't write "Dazo Gier scored a goal in the 67th minute". Compare to Emile Smith Rowe where a sea of citations call him "Smith Rowe". Filipino people do not omit maternal surnames in routine coverage not out of disrespect but more of convenience. They honor it by including it in their full legal name.

Even BBC Sports and Non-League Daily.com (UK-based), FIFA too use Gier to refer to him in shorthand. Not Dazo Gier. I'm discounting Filipino sources currently on the article even if these should hold more weight on account of Rob Gier being a Philippine international.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 04:53, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
