I was a quite active wikipedian. My first edit was made at 00:44, on 9 August 2005. The imposition of international standards which wiped out a decade of work on local Nova Scotia pages gave me pause. I also edited a lot of HRM pages which I had to largely stop when I was elected in to Halifax Regional Council as the Councillor for District 7 Halifax South Downtown in October 2012. I was re-elected twice. I ran for Mayor in 2024 and came in second, so I have started editing again (the CBRM page needs a lot of work!).
I was born in Halifax/Dartmouth, as it was then called, but as a navy brat also lived in Toronto, Ottawa, Norfolk and London. I've been editing for 20 years this August! I have been online since about 1984, when I first plugged a 300 baudacoustic coupler into my Vic-20 and called into my first BBS, TIBBS, a local BBS run on a Texas Instruments computer. I had an email account on the AM*X network and a FidoNet account by 1986, and was trying to hack into the Dal university computer by 1987. My first real post DARPA net style internet email address was at Dalhousie University as a student in 1990. As a point of pride - I still have access to that email account, though disappointingly the original @ac.dal.ca no longer maps to the @dal.ca domain. I remember when there were only 1100 Usenet newsgroups and the newsgroups were all, by and large, good, and Gopher and Telnet were still magical.
Before I was elected I worked as an faculty at a the Nova Scotia Community College, and as a business consultant focusing on business management, event planning, and government lobbying around cultural issues. I was been involved with the Halifax music community since 1989, including running the now defunct Halifax Pop Explosion for a nine years. I now run a small research consultancy owned by a large advertising firm.
I had had absolutely nothing to do with the creation of the page Waye Mason, though it has a number of errors and is missing a lot of stuff and I have largely resisted the urge to fix that.
Articles I Contributed to Heavily and Took Particular Pride In (most have changed to be almost unrecognizable over the years!)
wikipedia:WikiProject_NovaScotia when I mostly quit in 2008 this kind of died off.CBRMLove to see it taken over by someone with time.

I give you the Working Man's Barnstar for your tireless efforts in improving articles related to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The articles are much better and more factually correct now, and it is, I think, in large part thanks to you. Drop me a line anytime you like :)Thomasiscool 00:21, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
