Junglenut

Junglenut, aka Steve Fitzgerald, is a plant geek and naturalist from Cairns, Australia, interested mainly in the flora of Australian rainforests and related topics, with particular emphasis on the flora of the Wet Tropics of Queensland which surrounds my home. Mostly I work on creating, expanding, or improving articles in this category, with an ultimate goal to ensure that every native plant species of the Wet Tropics has an article on Wikipedia. I also work, with a lower prority, on the flora of Cape York Peninsula.

A comprehensive plant article usually takes me anywhere from four days to a couple of weeks, and given how many species there are in the Wet Tropics[a] and the limitations of the human lifespan, I will be forced to create many of them them as stub articles to begin with in order to ensure they each have a presence on here.

I take a holistic approach to editing Wikipedia. Before creating a new article I check Wikidata and ensure it contains as much data on the species as I can find, I look for images on (or upload my own to) Wikimedia Commons, and I create or improve the species' page on Wikispecies. When all these pages are up to scratch I then start the main article on Wikipedia.

I also contribute observations to iNaturalist whenever I can, you can see them here. All of my images and content there is released under the CC-BY-SA licence.

  1. ^ Well over 2000 flowering plants alone, i.e. not including ferns, cycads, conifers, mosses, etc.
