I'm Jeremy, and I found out about Wikipedia via an article on Slashdot in October 2001. I thought it was the best idea I had heard that year. I came to the site, found mostly a blank slate, and sat down immediately to compose an article on the first thing I thought of. Because I'm a man, that was, of course, the Roman Empire.

You can read my ramblings on the subject at this link: Old revision of Roman Empire.

If you feel the need to inflict that on yourself, you will find that I ran out of steam somewhere during the Flavian dynasty. Being in graduate school for computer science at the time, I realized I really should have been focusing on getting my Ph.D., and went back to work.

I spent a lot of afternoons working on computer science in 2001 - and a lot more since then - but that's the only one I remember clearly. I've been picking at Wikipedia slowly but steadily since then.

At some point in 2005, I even bothered to make myself an account. I thought it was going to be a burner, so used my initials followed by a random number as the username. And, in a further reflection of how seriously I take my participation here, 20 years later, I found the time to write a user page.
