Hello, I’m FinstaWiki
[edit]- Nine‑year Wikipedia veteran (edits dating back to 2016 on a home account).
- Investigative reporter by profession, currently filing from newsrooms in EMEA.
- Created this alt‑account in 2025 while on assignment in the Middle East; tight digital‑security protocols make it safer to decouple my travel laptop from my primary login.
Focus areas
- **Media freedom & disinformation** – tracking legal threats to press autonomy, especially in MENA.
- **Financial crime & crypto regulation** – translating pay‑walled scoops into citeable, public knowledge.
- **Conflict chronology** – sourcing timeline articles for Syria, Yemen, and the Caucasus.
- **Translation patrol** – light copy‑editing of Arabic‑ and Hebrew‑language sources into English citations.
Editing philosophy
[edit]- **Reliable sourcing first.** If a claim can’t pass the newsroom “two‑source rule,” it doesn’t belong here.
- **No clipboard journalism.** Summarise, don’t copy; attribute, don’t editorialise.
- **Consensus over credentials.** I bring subject‑matter experience, but community consensus trumps personal expertise.
- **One account, one purpose.** This login exists purely for secure editing during travel; it will retire once I’m back stateside. Never used for !votes or controversy involving my main account.
Conflict‑of‑interest disclosure
[edit]- My day‑job employer sometimes covers topics I edit.
- I **do not** edit articles about my employer, my own reporting, or competitors.
- If a COI ever arises, I raise it on the talk page and let uninvolved editors decide.
