UniMaker formely called "Super Mario Unimaker" is an unofficial level creation tool based on the games in the Super Mario Bros franchise launched on 3 april 2016 by brazillian developer Mario Silva knows as "Ninstar" and using the Gamer Maker Studio engine, largely inspired by Super Mario Maker (Wii U) gameplay.[1]
Gameplay
[edit]Unimaker has the same premise as the original game, allowing the sharing of customized levels based on 2D games from the Super Mario series, and also allowing modifications to the appearance of the levels between users.
Development
[edit]- Beta 1.0 and 1.1 version
UniMaker was originally planned to be a development tool for an unofficial adaptation of the game Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) in 2D (called 2D World but later renamed to 2D Universe[1]), The first prototype of the game was launched in August of 2015.
The level creation tool had its first beta demo release (1.0) in March 2016, and this first release was very well received compared to the original release of the first 2D Universe demo in May 2015.[2]
In June of the same year, the second demo version of the game was announced (1.1) with several new features and creation elements, however the release of this new version was delayed several times due to development complications.
In early 2017, after several delays to the release of version 1.1, a closed 'tech demo' was published to the game's community. It included several new features as previously announced, but suffered from significant instability compared to the previous version. This led the developer to remove the level sharing function in this version, thus limiting users to version 1.0.[3] to Share our courses.
- Beta 1.S e atual estado de desenvolvimento
In January 2018, the development of a new beta version was openly announced. This new version was directly programmed from the original source code of version 1.0 (becoming an independent branch of version 1.1) with improvements in stability, level compatibility, and the introduction of customization of 'assets' such as scenarios, themes, effects, and music. The title "1.S" derives from "Special".
1.S was initially published in January 2019, and during its development, the creation of the "definitive" version of the tool, currently known as "UniMaker DX," also began.[4] The version 1.1 branch has been discontinued.
On June 12, 2019, the game creator's laptop was stolen, pausing the fangame's development indefinitely. However, the game creator managed to recover it, and development resumed. [citation needed]
On October 12, 2019, the game was relaunched on Itch.io and its source code was made available on Github under the BSD license after the cancellation of 2D Universe.[5] References
