Expanding scope of sidebar from "Communism in Italy" to "Socialism in Italy"
With the history of Italian socialism and its role in modern Italian politics and identity, the scope of this sidebar limited to communism, specifically revolving around communist parties, is arbitrarily narrow, and has to leave out crucial historical events, organisations and individuals not related to communist parties. Other sidebar templates pertaining to socialism by country, including those for the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Yugoslavia have a broader scope in content, including historical events that go beyond parties, and specific ideologies, including communism. If the sidebar was about socialism in Italy, then it could include Italian communist parties and also compile other useful information that can educate people better on the subject. I am therefore requesting that the article be moved from "Communism in Italy" to "Socialism in Italy", and then expand the content of that sidebar to include historical events, people, organisations and ideologies. The Fasci Siciliani were not communist or the only precursor to Italian communism. The Fasci are not even mentioned in the article on the Italian Communist Party (in the absence of an article on Communism in Italy), nor are the leaders of the Fasci mentioned under People in the template. All the better, because they did not identify as communists, but as socialists or anarchists. There were many revolts, strikes and revolutionary insurrections in the 19th and early 20th century such as the bread riots in 1898, the 1904 Italian general strike or the Red Week, to name a few. These are not mentioned and would result in an endless list, and to single out the Fasci is incomplete and incorrect. Also, direct precursors to communism in Italy, like the Italian Socialist Party or the Italian Workers' Party are also not mentioned in the template. I think, it is better to limit the template to those events and people starting from emergence post WWI communist movement. - DonCalo (talk) 09:47, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
