Usage

Project banner

The {{WikiProject Comics}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. This template automatically adds articles to Category:WikiProject Comics articles. The full syntax is as follows:

Parameters

General parameters:

• class – valid values are fa, a, ga, b, c, start, stub, fl, list, na (case-insensitive). See the project's quality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |class= blank or omit the parameter.
• importance – valid values are listed in the custom importance mask. See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.
• attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • This parameter populates Category:Comics articles needing attention.
• cleanup – set |cleanup=yes if the article requires general cleaning up. Please detail what aspects of the article require clean-up on the article's talk page, otherwise the tag can be removed without redress to the problems.
  • This parameter populates Category:Comics articles needing cleanup.
• fiction – set |fiction=yes if the article needs rewriting to maintain an out of universe approach per Wikipedia:Writing about fiction.
  • This parameter populates Category:Comics articles that need to differentiate between fact and fiction.
• future – set |future=yes if the article contains discussion of comics that have been announced but are currently unpublished. Such articles should avoid recentism and statements that will date quickly.
  • This parameter populates Category:Discussion of future comics.
• needs-image – set |needs-image=yes if the article requires an image, which should be added per guidance.
  • This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested images of comics.
• needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles.
  • This parameter populates Category:Comics articles without infoboxes.
• listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Bob Kane, use |listas=Kane, Bob so that the talk page will show up in the K's and not the B's of the various assessment and administrative categories; similarly, for topics with titles beginning with an article such as "the" or "a" - e.g. for The Family Circus, use |listas=Family Circus, The so that the talk page will show up in the F's). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see Wikipedia:Categorization of people § Ordering names in a category.
  If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
• category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.

Reviews and collaborations:

• A-Class – set |A-Class=current, |A-Class=pass or |A-Class=fail if the article indicates the status of the article's A-Class review.

• collaboration-candidate – set |collaboration-candidate=yes if the page is a candidate to be the project collaboration.
  • This parameter populates Category:Comics collaboration candidates.
• current-collaboration – set |current-collaboration=yes if the page is currently the project collaboration.
  • This parameter populates Category:Current comics collaboration.
• past-collaboration – set |past-collaboration=yes (or any non-blank value other than "no", "n", "0" or "¬", such as the dates it was part of the collaboration) if the page was a past project collaboration.
  • This parameter populates Category:Past comics collaboration.

• peer-review – set |peer-review=yes if the article is currently undergoing a peer review, or to request that the peer review process for this page should be begun.
• old-peer-review – set |old-peer-review=yes if the article has had a peer review which is now archived.
  • This parameter populates Category:Old requests for comics peer review.
  • article-title – If the peer review page has been started, but is not at Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Peer review/{{SUBJECTPAGENAME}}, set this parameter; i.e. if the peer review page is Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Peer review/Foobar, set |article-title=Foobar.

Portals:

• portalX-name – if the article has been selected for use on a portal, the name of that portal. The name should be given without any formatting or namespace prefixes; thus, Portal:Comics is given as "|portal1-name=Comics". Up to five different portals may be specified, via the parameters portal1-name through portal5-name.
• portalX-link – the portal subpage location where the article may be found on the corresponding portal. This should be given as a pure unlinked subpage name; thus, Portal:Comics/Featured article/9 is given as "|portal1-link=Featured article/9".

Work groups

Work groups (general topics):

• Creators-work-group – set |Creators-work-group=yes if the article is supported by the Comics creators work group.
  • This parameter populates Category:Comics creators work group articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Comics creators articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
• Strips-work-group – set |Strips-work-group=yes if the article is supported by the Comic strips work group.
  • This parameter populates Category:Comic strips work group articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Comic strips articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
• Web-work-group – set |Web-work-group=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Webcomics.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Webcomics articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Webcomics articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.

Work groups (nations and regions):

• Canadian-work-group – set |Canadian-work-group=yes if the article is supported by the Canadian comics work group.
  • This parameter populates Category:Canadian comics work group articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Canadian comics articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
• British-work-group – set |British-work-group=yes if the article is supported by the British comics work group.
  • This parameter populates Category:British comics work group articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:British comics articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
• European-work-group – set |European-work-group=yes if the article is supported by the European comics work group.
  • This parameter populates Category:European comics work group articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:European comics articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
• US-work-group – set |US-work-group=yes if the article is supported by the United States comics work group.
  • This parameter populates Category:United States comics work group articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:United States comics articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
• World-work-group – set |World-work-group=yes if the article is supported by the World comics work group.
  • This parameter populates Category:World comics work group articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:World comics articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.

Aliases

• The parameters |Batman= and |batman= are recognised as aliases for |Batman-work-group=. If more than one is present, |Batman= has precedence over |batman=, and |Batman-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |british= and |British= are recognised as aliases for |British-work-group=. If more than one is present, |british= has precedence over |British=, and |British-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |canadian= and |Canadian= are recognised as aliases for |Canadian-work-group=. If more than one is present, |canadian= has precedence over |Canadian=, and |Canadian-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |Film= and |film= are recognised as aliases for |Comic-book-films-work-group=. If more than one is present, |Film= has precedence over |film=, and |Comic-book-films-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |creators= and |Creators= are recognised as aliases for |Creators-work-group=. If more than one is present, |creators= has precedence over |Creators=, and |Creators-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |DC= and |dc= are recognised as aliases for |DC-work-group=. If more than one is present, |DC= has precedence over |dc=, and |DC-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |euro= and |Euro= are recognised as aliases for |European-work-group=. If more than one is present, |euro= has precedence over |Euro=, and |European-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |Marvel= and |marvel= are recognised as aliases for |Marvel-work-group=. If more than one is present, |Marvel= has precedence over |marvel=, and |Marvel-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |Superman= and |superman= are recognised as aliases for |Superman-work-group=. If more than one is present, |Superman= has precedence over |superman=, and |Superman-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |us= and |US= are recognised as aliases for |US-work-group=. If more than one is present, |us= has precedence over |US=, and |US-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |web= and |Web= are recognised as aliases for |Web-work-group=. If more than one is present, |web= has precedence over |Web=, and |Web-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

• The parameters |world= and |World= are recognised as aliases for |World-work-group=. If more than one is present, |world= has precedence over |World=, and |World-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
