Merge proposal
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- To not merge, as undue at the proposed target, and sufficiently referenced and read to stand-alone. Klbrain (talk) 17:12, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
I propose merging UTC+08:45 into Time_in_Australia#Anomalies. There is heavy overlap and what detail isn't already covered at Time_in_Australia#Anomalies could easily be accommodated without a merge causing any article-size or weighting problems in Time in Australia. - Pinging @Steelkamp: as an involved editor. TarnishedPathtalk 09:15, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose its not an Anomaly its been in place for 90 years and a practical for those both on the Eyre Highway and those on the Rail line. Events are reported in the local time in those areas. The station that uses +9 is an anomaly. Gnangarra 11:10, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
- It is an anomaly as compared to the time zones of the respective states, given that it is in variance and not an official time zone. We can disagree on that if you wish. What is abundantly obvious though, is that there is heavy overlap and it would only take adding a couple of sentences to Time in Australia for it to cover all of the information in UTC+08:45. TarnishedPathtalk 11:17, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
- 3500views in the last monthstats with one day reaching 1000 that day matched an international event. There 150 odd links to the page(yes that includes templated links) even still many arent via the template which accounts for less than a third. The merge would effectively conceal/hide the information form the casual inquister while denying all capacity to expand the article. Such a merger would negatively affect the ability of people to find what they are interested in understanding. Gnangarra 13:07, 6 July 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose as there is enough info here to have a stand alone article, and it would be "undue" unofficial detail in Time in Australia. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:39, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose as per User:Graeme Bartlett's reasoning -- Chuq (talk) 02:08, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose as per the above. This time zone "anomaly" is not really an anomaly but rather a historical relic for Australia, having existed for 90 or so years. Hansen Sebastian (Talk) 04:36, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose as per the above reasons. This time zone—unofficial in state/federal government terms, but observed on the ground and by local councils—is both interesting and notable. It garners reader interest. Merging it into the general article on time in Australia would not benefit those readers, who wish to know about this quirky time, nor people who want to understand time in Australia generally, as this oddity would get undue weight. Frankly, I think more could be said here and I believe this article has potential for expansion, although I personally lack the time (ho ho) to add more and concede this statement remains mere assertion for now. Axver (talk) 16:40, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose (strongly) for reasons listed by other users above. Paintspot Infez (talk) 02:58, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
