Sour dough

[edit]

Is this bread leavened or unleavened? It's important to note on the article. --92slim (talk) 12:42, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I will mark it as leavened, as per this recipe. --92slim (talk) 12:43, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A more general question about the scope of this article: Is it about one particular type of bread or about all breads baked in a tandoor? The gallery includes e.g. lavash which is unleavened and different from obi non or tohax. If it is a specific type, the gallery should not include lavash and tonis puri. But then, is it just the same as obi non? Or are obi non and tohax subtypes of it, and it is what is generally called non in Central Asia (see Uzbek cuisine#Breads)?

Then what about naan common in South Asia? Is this also a type of naan or is naan a type of tandoor bread or is it also just the same? The article mentions naan baked in a tandoor in some regions of Pakistan. However the obi non article tells us that obi non is thicker than naan and thus obi non and naan are not the same. I have an impression that all these articles revolve around similar subjects but there is no agreement how they are distinguished. --Off-shell (talk) 14:34, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

To merge Taboon bread into Tabun oven for context; the argument against the original proposal was that Tandoor bread was sufficiently distinct (baked on the side walls) such that a merge there would be unhelpful. Klbrain (talk) 17:45, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please participate in merge discussion about merging the Taboon bread article into this one from here 176.28.150.183 (talk) 11:50, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

'''Don't merge'''Tandoor/tannur (one where bread is stuck to the side) and Taboon (one where bread is on pebbles) are 2 different structures with different histories, I find that the overlap between the 2 is too small for a merge, furthermore, the modern day usage differs, as evident in the differing geographic distributions. Lastly, both pages are contain a lot of information and have plenty of sources on them, even if the overlap was sufficient, merging might result in a cramped page, especially when it comes to history and etymology~~~~ 2kbfloppadisk (talk) 13:50, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Merge Merge Taboon bread to Tabun oven – Despite exising since 2007, the Taboon bread article is still only a few paragraphs short. FaviFake (talk) 14:44, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If we are going to merge it on the basis of the lack of notability, then we should not merge it into either tabun oven, simply because taboon bread has as much to do with tandoor bread as it has to do with any other flatbread, its simply not uniquely related to tandoors, and it overlaps with other breads just as much. 2kbfloppadisk (talk) 17:05, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm open to suggestions for other articles! FaviFake (talk) 17:07, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If the merge proposal is modified so that it points Taboon bread to Tabun oven, then I would support merging; the overlap between the two topics is large and inherent in the sense that neither the oven nor bread can be described without describing the other. Most of the information on Taboon bread describes taboon ovens, and Tabun oven does spend a lot of time describing taboon bread. Most of the sources also have this overlap, so the merge would have a lot of information deduplicated.
I think its best to have a section like == Uses == then === Taboon bread === to which Taboon bread would redirect, kind of like how a page on a species of a plant would have sections on the fruit and its uses.
Input is welcome :) 2kbfloppadisk (talk) 12:02, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well there you go! I've changed my !vote. Thanks for looking into this. FaviFake (talk) 12:17, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The notability of taboon bread is somewhat questionable. I would support merging into tabun oven. I ought to review the sourcing for taboon bread now that you mention it to see if it really passes notability. Metallurgist (talk) 06:34, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
