FlyingScotsman72 removed this from lede. Do we have a consensus for these changes? Theofunny (talk) 22:41, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

They only added this stuff in May (see above in this Talk page) and I'm sure they'll turn up here to berate my deletions any day now, so I don't care about this; I don't have the time of day to have a back and forward with extremists (I'm not talking about Theofunny), particularly not with well-read (i.e. 'selectively well-read') extremists. I hope Mr. 21 year old gymbro continues enjoying the great englightened Hassen Pecker! (Remember what he said about Miley Cyrus? Do you?) FlyingScotsman72 (talk) 23:03, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not in favor of FlyingScotsman's changes. The restored (current as of this comment) version is better. Monk of Monk Hall (talk) 23:10, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm sure you're not. What a surprise! See my reply above lol FlyingScotsman72 (talk) 23:12, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
there’s nothing with the lede, mentioning killing the unarmed protesters (which was initially not mentioned) as a driving factor for the intifada’s degeneration into violence is a fair characterisation, no? The Great Mule of Eupatoria (talk) 06:13, 5 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Grammatical error in the opening paragraph

[edit]

Towards the end of the paragraph is the sentence ‘This led to the uprising to devolve into a period of heightened violence’ which has an extra ‘to’ Jbell179 (talk) 00:04, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, thanks. Zerotalk 08:20, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Casualty references are badly sourced

[edit]

A number of the archived sources referenced in the info box for casualties do not match the text they're supporting. "29 September 2000 – 1 January 2005:3,179–3,354 Palestinians total": the 3,179 number has 3 citations. The first is to two pages from the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism, one of which supplies the 3,179 number from 27 September 2000 through 1 January 2005, while the other is a granular breakdown of casualties through September 2002. The second is to the BBC, supplying 3,223 from 29 September 2000 to 15 January 2005. So far so good, but here things begin to go sideways. The third is a UN field update out of Gaza from a different conflict, on 9 January 2009, 2 weeks into the 2008-2009 war in Gaza, 4 years after the stated timeframe the source is being used to reference. Next, the 3,354 number, is sourced to a B'Tselem that counts from 29 September 2000 through 26 December 2008. This timeline already makes the source inappropriate to the box, given the added 4 years of counting, but also the number 3,354 does not appear on the archived source. The closest I can find is that, on the live version of that statistical sheet, B'Tselem counts 3,353 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza strip, but still across their 8-year period rather than the period that the info box is discussing. Using these two sources and attributing them as references to the current box is a clear error. From the current citations which appear to be valid, the range should be 3,179-3,229. The subsequent lines of numbers delineating casualties into more specific categories also require correction to match the cited sources. The changes aren't very large, but, especially given the bad publicity Wikipedia has received for claims of biased treatment of the wars between Israel and the Palestinian territories, this kind of sloppiness looks bad and invites accusations of duplicity and unreliability. 2601:602:8100:6840:4DCC:C113:4FA:FAC3 (talk) 19:36, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, I made some errors above. The BBC source, when combining "PALESTINIANS KILLED BY ISRAELIS" (3,223, not 3,229 which I mistyped at the end of the above paragraph) with "PALESTINIANS KILLED BY PALESTINIANS" (135), gives us a total number of 3,358. So, the range should be 3,179-3,358. Now, BBC also has a section on "PALESTINIAN CITIZENS OF ISRAEL" killed, which adds 17 to the total number of Palestinians killed (3,375). So, the range, if including Israeli citizens who are Palestinian, would be 3,179-3,375, with the IICT citation(s) for the first number and the BBC citation for the second. 2601:602:8100:6840:4DCC:C113:4FA:FAC3 (talk) 19:47, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The live version of the B'Tselem source allows you to apply date parameters. Setting the span as 29 September 2000 to 1 January 2005, they have 3,198. So, if the citation is fixed to an updated version of the page with the identified parameters, this source is still valid, though it is no longer the upper limit of the range. 2601:602:8100:6840:4DCC:C113:4FA:FAC3 (talk) 19:55, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of Iraqi support

[edit]

During the second infidata Saddam was one of the largest supporters of the Palestinian cause, with Saddam sending millions of dollars in aid to the Palestinian fighters. Saddam had also given money directly to Palestinian families who had lost men who were martyred in the infidata, there needs to be some mention to the large contribution Saddam Hussein (Iraq) had made to the Palestinian cause, especially adding to the info box that Iraq was a supporter. I would be happy to link numerous sources if its needed. Local Mandaean (talk) 07:26, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
