New Westminster Indian BandQayqayt First NationQayqayt First Nation is the common name (and self-preferred name) used to refer to the band, regardless of objections to the band's use of the name "Qayqayt", which is outside of this Wikipedia policy–based discussion. While "New Westminster Indian Band" is the official name of the band under the Indian Act, it is seldom used outside of legal documents and correspondence. The provincial (BC) government, for instance, uses "Qayqayt First Nation (New Westminister)", while the federal (Canadian) government uses "New Westminster", with "Indian Band" excluded in both cases. The New Westminster school board also recognises the name Qayqayt First Nation.
For reference, editors can compare Google searches of Qayqayt First Nation, New Westminster Indian Band, and the somewhat erroneous amalgamation of the two New Westminster First Nation, and evaluate the results and number of results. Yue🌙 00:16, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Support per nom, it should probably say in parentheses in the lede: (officially known as the New Westminster Indian Band) if this is the case. For further evidence, Qayqayt FN has 50 hits on google Scholar [1] and NWIB has 13, mostly about law [2] PersusjCP (talk) 20:37, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
