Deletion
[edit]Oppose, as I had created this article, since Mafaz Al-Suwaidan was listed in the page Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Missing articles by nationality/Kuwait (this version is from before 7 May 2024, the page was edited afterwards). She has also had a Wikidata page since 2022- wikidata.org/wiki/Q112676033.

- @FruitRollUps Mafaz Al-Suwaidan is a producer and writer of a Webby-nominated documentary series, as well as the daughter of a public figure, and ex-wife of a celebrity. She is notable enough that Google would show results about her if you search for her. Why should this page be deleted even if she's just an academic-activist? - When it comes to Wikipedia, notability is key. The guidelines are pretty clear: a subject must have received significant coverage in reliable, independent sources to be considered notable. Unfortunately, Mafaz Al-Suwaidan's page doesn't quite meet these standards.
- Lack of Independent Notability**: While Mafaz Al-Suwaidan is a producer and writer of a Webby-nominated documentary series, this nomination alone doesn't equate to widespread recognition or impact. Many projects receive nominations without achieving notable success or recognition beyond their immediate context.
- Think of it like this: just because someone is involved in a project that gets nominated for an award, it doesn't automatically make them a household name.
- Familial and Marital Connections**: The argument that she's notable due to her familial connections and her status as the ex-wife of a celebrity doesn't cut it. Wikipedia discourages the inclusion of individuals who are primarily notable for their relationships with more prominent figures.
- - Just being related to or married to a celebrity isn't enough to warrant a Wikipedia page.
- - For example, the pages of individuals like spouses or children of famous personalities are often deleted if they don't have their own independent achievements.
- Problematic Notability Based on Ex-Husband**: Marking notability based on a past relationship with a celebrity raises concerns about misogyny and undervaluing women's contributions. This practice perpetuates the idea that a woman's worth or recognition is tied to her relationships with men rather than her own achievements.
- - This can be damaging, as it diminishes women's individual accomplishments and reinforces a narrative that they're secondary to the men they're associated with.
- Insufficient Coverage in Reliable Sources**: To establish notability, a subject must be covered in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the subject. If most references to Mafaz Al-Suwaidan come from self-published sources, social media, or press releases, it doesn't meet Wikipedia's criteria for verifiability and reliability.
- - Few if any of the of the sources cited in her article are from major outlets, they are school news papers and sites that are little more then blogs. They therefore don't provide the independent verification required for a Wikipedia entry.
- - Reliable sources should include established news outlets, academic journals, or books that discuss her work in a significant context.
- Focus on Academic Activism**: While being an academic-activist is commendable, it doesn't automatically confer notability. Many individuals engage in activism without achieving a level of recognition that warrants a Wikipedia page.
- - Activists involved in local community efforts may have a profound impact but may not be notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia unless they've achieved national or international recognition or have been featured in significant media outlets.
- In conclusion, Mafaz Al-Suwaidan's page should be deleted due to the lack of independent notability, reliance on familial connections, insufficient coverage in reliable sources, and the nature of her activism. Allowing a page to exist based on her ex-husband's fame raises critical issues about misogyny and undervaluing women's contributions.
- By deleting the page, Wikipedia would be upholding its commitment to maintaining high standards for content quality and relevance, ensuring that only those who have made substantial, independent contributions to their fields are recognized. FruitRollUps (talk) 21:29, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

Spouse
[edit]@24.2.169.79, do you have a source which mentions that Mafaz and Humood AlKhudher are divorced/separated? Yuyutsu Ho (talk) 04:34, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
Tareq Al-Suwaidan
[edit]Should the article mention that Mafaz's father Tareq Al-Suwaidan is an anti-Semitic extremist and has been banned from entering the US and Belgium?
Mafaz has also been accused of antisemitism (for example, in her profile by Canary Mission) because of her anti-Zionist activism, and because of her father's views on Jews and Israel.
Is that relevant enough for Tareq Al-Suwaidan's ideological leanings to be mentioned in this article? Yuyutsu Ho (talk) 17:25, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
