Unambiguous

Is there a need for the (1982) disambiguator in the title? How many times have Hungary beaten El Salvador 10–1? --Jameboy (talk) 19:14, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would say not. The normal convention for naming these articles seems to be 1982 Hungary v El Salvador football match – see for example 2001 Germany v England football match – filelakeshoe (t / c) 07:07, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm strongly against using score-as-a-disambiguator; year is what's more commonly used, see Talk:West_Germany_1–0_Austria#Requested_moves . Granted, this score is at least unusual, but the year is needed. That said, I don't like this format; I'd prefer Hungary v El Salvador (1982) or Hungary v El Salvador (1982 FIFA World Cup)) , to follow the example of other matches in Category:FIFA World Cup matches. Overall, you've done well shaping up this article in just a few days! I have a few comments, mainly on improving the understanding for a broad audience. I'm not trying to be pedantic, but here are what I've picked up as a very casual football follower that I believe would improve the article. Everything else feels thorough; happy with sourcing, neutrality and pictures (though how good would it be to have one of the photos of that scoreboard!).

  • At the 1954 FIFA World Cup, Hungary set a record – what sort of record? National? at a World Cup? at an international match? If it is a world cup record, I'd suggest: in 1954, Hungary set a World Cup record..., otherwise feels ambiguous

  • Over the following tournaments, no team broke the record, but Yugoslavia equaled it with a 9–0 victory of their own against Zaire in 1974. awkward flow, I would suggest including Yugoslavia's equalling first and then mention that no team has since had a higher GD.

  • Article easily long enough and was promoted to GA on 19 June (congrats!). Article sourcing looks good, hook facts are all interesting, cited and present, though ALT2 does make it sound like this match was the only World Cup match with a 9-goal margin of victory, rather than one of three as the note indicates. I also am not a huge fan of "blowout" being present in the hooks, as I don't see that word used in the article (unless I'm just missing it) and it seems inappropriate in wiki-voice. Earwig gives a pretty big number but all flagged text are direct quotes. QPQ is completed. Should be good for a tick here once hook problems have been resolved.
