Annals of Inisfallen?

[edit]

The "Annals of Inisfallen and Annals of Ulster" section of this title states that the subject is mentioned in the Annals of Inisfallen. And implies that a subject of this name is mentioned in the Annals of Ulster. I can find no evidence of this.

In terms of the Annals of Inisfallen (archived by UCC's Celt project and the Bodleian Library), the record mentioned in the body (AI841.1) makes no mention of the named person. How do we account for this?

In terms of the Annals of Ulster (also archived in translated form by UCC's Celt project), I can also find no mention of the subject. Where is he mentioned in the Annals of Ulster?

What am I missing? Guliolopez (talk) 10:26, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW, the subject does appear to be mentioned in the Book of Leinster. In those sections dealing with the death of Lugaid Mac Con. But that isn't what the text of the article refers to. Looking at the article text, it seems that some form of LLM "hallucination" could well be at play here.... Guliolopez (talk) 11:25, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I note that the author has now "addressed" this issue - by completely removing any and all mentions of the Annals of Inisfallen (and Annals of Ulster). And replacing with an (at least verifiable) reference to the Annals of the Four Masters. While this addresses the main concern with the FV issue, I (frankly) remain interested to understand how the editor explains/accounts for the apparent issue with the previous text. (If ChatGPT didn't hallucinate the supposed mention in the Annals of Inisfallen, what/who did? If it wasn't hallucinated, where is the subject mentioned in the Annals of Inisfallen? As there is no apparent mention at AI841.1 - as the original text stated?) Guliolopez (talk) 11:58, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
