New to editing
[edit]I am drafting a new article on Irish faction fighting here: User:Wiki Editor mq/sandbox
It covers the background, the Caravats and Shanavests, decline in the nineteenth century, and the role of women.
I would appreciate any advice on the article’s structure, tone, sources, or images before moving it to mainspace.
Thanks in advance for your help. Wiki Editor mq (talk) 18:38, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

Faction fighting → Faction fighting in Ireland – Could refer to any kind of faction fighting around the world, such as fighting between Somali clans. This is not exclusive to Ireland as the article states. South of the Tongass (talk) 04:47, 2 October 2025 (UTC) — Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk 12:08, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- I started this article and first called it *Irish faction fighting*. I think “Faction fighting in Ireland” sounds clearer and fits how other history pages are named, so I’m happy with the change. Wiki Editor mq (talk) 14:05, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
- I agree, let's move it Jay =^•ﻌ•^= 15:55, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
- can we get a more experienced editor to move it? Jay =^•ﻌ•^= 17:35, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
- Sure, do you know how we can go about doing that? Wiki Editor mq (talk) 18:54, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
- Help:How to move a page I think this is how we do it. I can do it if you want Jay =^•ﻌ•^= 19:16, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for offering, but does it say that we have to wait for the 'discussion' to close or end ...? If it can be done now, go right ahead, thanks Wiki Editor mq (talk) 21:08, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

- I'm neutral on the naming matter. I'd be happy for this to be retitled "Irish faction fighting". ¶ The article's history will show that it was me who renamed this to "Faction fighting" -- but not from "Irish faction fighting", instead from "Draft:Irish Faction Fights". Why? (i) It clearly merited full article status. (ii) The title of the draft didn't seem to be a proper name. (iii) The draft/article seemed much less about discrete fights than about general violence. But (iv) I didn't think that there also existed articles on Iraqi faction fighting, Venezuelan faction fighting, etc; and also "faction fighting" sounded slightly unfamiliar (I'd normally say "factional fighting", "violent factionalism", or some other alternative). So I guessed that "faction fighting" was something like "the troubles": widely applicable but in practice very often about Ireland. And that is why I gave it the simpler name, but is certainly not a reason for retaining it. ¶ Icannotchoosemyuser ("Jay") may be looking for "a more experienced editor". I am an example, but I am not going to move this. If a process normally taking one week is launched, you normally start by waiting one week for it to complete. In some cases there are good reasons to accelerate this, but I see no reason here. -- Hoary (talk) 23:29, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for explaining the background and the reasons for the earlier title change. I am happy to let the normal move request process run its course and to see what consensus develops. My original intention was to create an article specifically about faction fighting within Ireland, so I would prefer that the final title includes a clear reference to Ireland.
