Under Construction
[edit]As part of the process of producing route map templates for the Caledonian Railway Main Line, this new article is being produced to cover the route only, which will subsequently be removed from the main article. --Stewart 23:20, 10 August 2007 (UTC) Absolutely certain Gorgie (East) station not on the Princes Street-Carstairs line, but was a station on the Edinburgh Southside and Suburban (between Craiglockhart and Haymarket) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeffrey Carrubbers (talk • contribs) 18:21, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Scope and layout
[edit]I wonder if there is any consensus that the scope and layout of this article are challenging. I am thinking of the curious but uninformed person coming here who wants to find out more about the Caledonian main line. That person might anticipate that it means Glasgow Central to Carlisle and Edinburgh to Carstairs.
We seem to launch straight into Carstairs to Greenhill Junction, without much preamble. From there onwards it is largely a configuration list.
I would think of the Caledonian Main Line as meaning Carlisle to Glasgow and Edinburgh. I appreciate the difficulty that Glasgow was reached at first over the Wishaw and Coltness and the Glasgow Garnkirk and Coatbridge, and then soon after over the Clydesdale Junction to South Side, but those difficulties can be handled, just as the post-Beeching absence of Princes Street station can be handled.
Constructive comments welcome. Afterbrunel (talk) 16:55, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Caledonian main line → Caledonian Main Line – Cross-article consistency per WP:UKT/NC-L; I would also accept Caledonian Railway Main Line as this seems to be used in the article as well JacobTheRox(talk | contributions) 11:57, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
