"AI" presents as a field of science/technology, which is inherently misleading
I have a COI, since I'm using my own article as a citation. I know there are many in the field of AI besides myself that do not passively affirm how the industry tends to refer to "AI" as "a [real/coherent] thing" -- which intrinsically misleads.
Here's the kind of thing I would like to see added up top (e.g., the end of the opening section). I imagine there are other articles other than my own HBR article cited here and certainly there are other ways to phrase the point.
A problem with the field of AI is that there is no agreed definition and so its subjectivity brings into question the very legitimacy of it as a field. As Harvard Business Review wrote, "There’s no satisfactory way to define AI... suggested definitions either fail to qualify as 'intelligent' in the ambitious spirit implied by 'AI' or fail to establish an objective goal."[1]EricVSiegel (talk) 13:01, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If there are many in the field of AI besides yourself, can you provide any additional citations? I don't think we should add this based on a single opinion article. Either way, it would not be in the lead section, see WP:LEADFOLLOWSBODY - MrOllie (talk) 13:22, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
