Talk:Analog Game Studies Journal
Preparing this Article for Approval
[edit]As a peer reviewed academic journal that is open access, Analog Game Studies reaches out to scholarly, industry, and fan audiences. Wikipedia makes sense as a place that all three groups go for information about this resource. It also offers a justification and explanation of Games Studies in general,
The objections flagged for the draft are:
- Notability: See Notability (academic journals)
- I think some of this can be addressed by leaning into the scholarly aspects of the journal and bringing up more on Games Studies.
- Self-Promotional: See Advertisements masquerading as articles
- I think a lot of this is addressed by the References to outside sources. This can perhaps be noted more in the body of the text, but I think a lot of this has been addressed.
Here are some examples of other academic journals:
- Journal of Cinema and Media Studies
- Only a stub. Flagged as possibly not meeting Wikipedia's general notability guideline. It has an introduction and very short history. Its Bibliography box (I know there is a better term but this is what has stuck in my brain) is really well filled out. I wonder how much a JSTOR and Project Muse listing help here. Two of its three references are to the journals it evolved out of.
- Take Away to apply here: If there are other indexing information, add them. If there is an image, add that too, but most of all, lean more in to the academic studies tags under Discipline
- Critical Inquiry
- Another stub. The only flag is questioning the fair use of an image. It probably was not flagged for notability or self-promotion because of the links to other Wikipedia entries and the NYT reference.
- Games and Culture
- I really like how brief this is but still emphasizes what it does. It along with DHQ are models I am using for my first revisions. If we can do Abstracting and indexing or impact factors, that would be great.
- DHQ
- This is a good attainable model for now. Note how the intro is brief but still highlights the main points of it. This is what I am going to try for in my edits to the entry.
- Organization for Transformative Works and Culture
- This is a good model to emulate in the future. I think the "Services and platforms" section would be a good model for including Generation Analog.

Red Analog Games
[edit]This link currently leads to nowhere. Is there another term that can substitute here? Otherwise, there should be brief definition. FaulkTest (talk) 16:56, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Open Access Journals
[edit]When this is approved, we should probably add this (and some others like Transformative Works and Culture) to the List of Open Access Journals.
There currently isn't a media studies section, so we should perhaps create one or join the existing Humanities one. FaulkTest (talk) 17:05, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Defining Analog
[edit]The definition of analog as in analog games does not seem to be on Wikipedia. Here is the current entry for the ways Wikipedia defines the term. FaulkTest (talk) 17:18, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- Took a stab at this but others can make it better FaulkTest (talk) 17:40, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Added "Topics Covered" - Please improve it
[edit]I am listing some of the topics covered that was originally listed in the introduction. I think this section is needed, but I am not happy with the list or the heading title. FaulkTest (talk) 17:21, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Question: Abstract and Indexing; Funding
[edit]Does anyone have info on these topics or the willingness to look it up? Impact factors (while I personally don't particularly like) are also useful in this kind of article FaulkTest (talk) 17:35, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Publisher after the first 5 volumes?
[edit]The first 5 volumes were published through ETC Press. What is the status now? FaulkTest (talk) 17:38, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- Nevermind
- I realized that the current publisher is Play Story Press Consortium (yes, I know this was in the original draft, but I missed it) FaulkTest (talk) 18:10, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Adding DJA: are there other awards?
[edit]Added the Diana Jones Award nomination If there are others, we should add them FaulkTest (talk) 17:56, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Books
[edit]How these are published an what makes them accessible would be good to add here. FaulkTest (talk) 18:04, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Add more external links
[edit]This can be the YouTube channel and Games in Lab to start FaulkTest (talk) 18:06, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

gng now satisfied, moving
[edit]I've added several academic sources that satisfy the notability requirement for academic journals: Criterion 1: The journal is considered by reliable sources to be influential in its subject area. Criterion 2: The journal is frequently cited by other reliable sources. Criterion 3: The journal is historically important in its subject area. AugusteBlanqui (talk) 14:58, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
