Talk:2,5-Dimethoxy-4-trifluoromethylamphetamine

Requested move 19 October 2025

[edit]

2,5-Dimethoxy-4-trifluoromethylamphetamineDOTFMDOTFM – The common name of the drug is "DOTFM" and is what it's almost always referred to as in the scientific literature and elsewhere. This term is largely or exclusively associated with this drug. Citing Wiki policies for the move proposal including WP:OCHEMNAME, WP:COMMONNAME, WP:ACROTITLE, and WP:CONCISE. That is, the common/trivial name is preferred per Wiki policies, an acronym is fine if the acronym is primarily or exclusively associated with the topic in question, and the new title is much more succinct, concise, and readily recognizable. – AlyInWikiWonderland (talk, contribs) 19:44, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. WP:ACROTITLE says "Abbreviations and acronyms are often ambiguous and thus should be avoided unless the subject is known primarily by its abbreviation and that abbreviation is primarily associated with the subject". This is ambiguous (with .fm for example), and also not at all a well-known acronym. This should be spelled out in full, per WP:RECOGNIZE.  — Amakuru (talk) 19:56, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment: The subject is known primarily by its acronym and the acronym is primarily associated with the subject, so WP:ACROTITLE is fulfilled. When you Google "DOTFM", the acronym "dotFM" (re: ".fm") comes up in most of the search results. Filtering out those results will instead get you DOTFM the psychedelic. Similarly, searching "DOTFM" in the scientific literature will exclusively get you the psychedelic drug. Note that "DOTFM" is all-caps and Wikipedia page titles are case-sensitive, so there is not a conflict with "dotFM". Re: WP:RECOGNIZE, the spelled-out chemical name of this drug is far less recognizable for most people than the acronym and common/trivial name of "DOTFM". Thanks. – AlyInWikiWonderland (talk, contribs) 20:59, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Support A brief search and this title (also on Wikipedia) shows up: DOTFM-NDEPA which in the lead of the page describes itself as such: N-(N,N-diethylpropylamide) (NDEPA) derivative of the psychedelic drug DOTFM. here is the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOTFM-NDEPA Agnieszka653 (talk) 21:43, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Regarding DOTFM.fm, these are sufficiently different to satisfy WP:SMALLDETAILS, especially in light of of the other good reasons to change this title. DOTFM is already a primary redirect here. I would add a hatnote to this article, pointing to .fm to aid any readers who do end up here by mistake. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫(talk) 15:04, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
