Suroboyo Bus, abbreviated SB, is a Transit bus system in Surabaya, Indonesia. Suroboyo Bus was launched on 7 April 2018 under the former mayor Tri Rismaharini.[1] It is one of two BRT systems in the city, with the other being Trans Semanggi Suroboyo.

Each Suroboyo Bus bus is staffed with a driver and one helper that assist the driver with fare collection and passenger wayfinding. Tracking of Suroboyo Bus buses can be located in the GOBIS app,[2] as well as the MitraDarat app by the Ministry of Transport.

At present, Suroboyo Bus operates three routes:

Route Alterations

  • Suroboyo Bus R1 was launched with a route ran to Rajawali street. On 3 May 2024, Suroboyo Bus was extended to serve Tanjung Perak.[3]
  • Suroboyo Bus R2 was formerly a route that traversed east-west launched 4 September 2018. The route was then transferred to Trans Semanggi Suroboyo as route K2L on 1 February 2022.
  • Suroboyo Bus R3 was formerly a route that traversed MERR launched 17 August 2019. The route was then transferred to Trans Semanggi Suroboyo as route K3L on 20 December 2022.
  • Suroboyo Bus R7 was formerly a route that served TIJ to Mayjend Jono Soewojo street. On 14 September 2022, the route was extended to Osowilangun Terminal, with a further weekend extension to Adventureland Romokalisari on 1 October 2022. The route was then cut short from TIJ to UNESA Lidah Wetan, before the route was eventually transferred to Wirawiri Suroboyo as route FD08.
  • Suroboyo Bus R4 was relaunched with a route from Purabaya Terminal to UNAIR Kampus C on 28 October 2024. The route was then extended to PENS on 1 April 2025.

There are a total of three bus types used within the three routes:

  • R1 uses medium Laksana CityLine 2 & 3 buses built on Mercedes and Scania chassis'.
  • R4 uses 10 Laksana E-Nucleus buses built on electric Hyundai chassis',[4] and 1 Skywell electric bus.
  • SBT uses Laksana New Cityliner Double Decker buses.

Operating hours and Payment

Suroboyo Bus operating hours range from 05.30–21.30 WIB.

Currently, Suroboyo Bus accepts payment via QRIS, electronic payment cards, as well as via the GOBIS app. Payment via plastic bottles are still accepted, however plastic bottles must be exchanged at specific drop-off points, which can then be exchanged for points within the GOBIS app.

Incidents

During the August 2025 Indonesian protests, Suroboyo Bus R1 experienced interruptions in service patterns on 29 August, with service concluding prematurely at 20.35 WIB.[5] Interruptions continued into 30 August, where R1 bypassed stops affected by protests.[6]
