Santa Monica Mountains Fund

History

The Santa Monica Mountains Fund (SMMF, also known as SAMO Fund) was established in 1988 to support the education and resource protection efforts of the National Park Service (NPS) and California State Parks in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, SMMNRA. Originally incorporated as the Santa Monica Mountains Parklands Association, the organization was formed by concerned citizens to represent the interests of the public in the development of parklands and recreation opportunities within the mountains and by-laws have since been updated to indicate they exist to support the National Park Service in the Santa Monica Mountains.[1]

The registered offices of the SMMF are shared with the SMMNRA NPS headquarters in Westlake Village. The SMMNRA is a United States National Recreation Area located within the greater Los Angeles region, with two thirds of the parklands in northwest Los Angeles County, and the remaining third, including a Simi Hills extension, in southeastern Ventura County.

Mission

The SMMF works to protect and encourage appreciation of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, California. The SMMF achieves this by supporting National Park Service efforts in education, science, research, improved facilities, citizen engagement, stewardship and philanthropy.[1]
