Salt and vinegar chips

Salt and vinegar chips (or salt and vinegar crisps) are a potato chip variety. It is considered to be a "staple" in Great Britain and Ireland and is one of the earliest varieties of flavoured chips.[1][2] They are sometimes flavored sea salt[3] and sodium diacetate.
Salt and vinegar chips have a noticeable scent when bags are opened.[4] According to a writer for the Tasting Table, the flavour pairs well with beer.[5] Multiple brands that sell the variety only use vegan ingredients.[6][7]
Salt and vinegar chips are the fourth-most popular potato chip flavour worldwide.[3] In Britain, the flavour was first introduced nationally by Smith's Crisps in 1967,[8] and became highly popular.[9] In the 1970s through the 2000s, salt and vinegar was either the second or third best selling flavour in the country, along with cheese and onion, while ready salted was the single most popular.[10][11][12] In more recent years, salt and vinegar has matched or outdone the popularity of ready salted.[13]
