Predator: Day of the Hunter (initially published simply as Predator) is the first comic book limited series of Marvel Comics' Predator, created and written by Ed Brisson and illustrated by Kev Walker. The series ran for six issues from August 2022 to January 2023. Leinil Francis Yu provided cover art for this series only. A trade paperback was released on April 4, 2023. The series, set in 2056, follows Theta Berwick, a woman hunting Yautja across the galaxy in search of the one who killed her parents.

Publication history

[edit]

In July 2020, Marvel Comics was announced to be developing a new line of Predator comic books to release in 2021,[1] Ultimately the first limited series in a planned series about Yautja-hunter Theta Berwick, Predator: Day of the Hunter, written by Ed Brisson and drawn by Kev Walker, would be published in 2022, following a long delay.[2]

Plot

[edit]

Issue #1

[edit]

In the near future, a young Theta Berwick sees her family slaughtered by a Yautja hunter. Years later, as an adult in 2056, Theta has become a hunter of the Yautja species, waging a one-woman genocide attempting to track down the individual hunter who killed her parents.[3]

Issue #2

[edit]

Theta crash-lands on a tundra planet, trekking through the wilds to the nearest outpost, while watched by a Yautja.[4]

Issue #3

[edit]

Theta is ambushed by the Yautja, taking it on one-on-one sans weaponry.[5]

Issue #4

[edit]

Theta finds herself cornered by two Yautja, going head-to-head with them an all-out dogfight.[6]

Issue #5

[edit]

Theta is taken prisoner by the Astar team, who she seeks to escape from while elsewhere a relative of the Yautja she killed dishonorably seeks retribution.[7]

Issue #6

[edit]

Theta and the Astar team find themselves under attack by a Yautja, as Theta continues her search for the one she has always been looking for.[8]

Reception

[edit]

Predator: Day of the Hunter received positive reviews.[9][10][11]

Sequel

[edit]

A sequel, Predator: The Preserve, was published for five issues between March and July 2023 and collected into a trade paperback on October 24, 2023,[12] while a third book, Predator: The Last Hunt, was published in 2024.[13]
