Panoramic train is a large-glass sunroof passenger train which is a modification of the executive train by the Surabaya Gubeng in 2022. The Panoramic train service is operated by PT Kereta Api Indonesia and its subsidiary, KAI Wisata.[1] Currently, panoramic train used by the Argo Wilis-Turangga (Bandung-Surabaya Gubeng), Parahyangan (Gambir-Bandung), Papandayan (Gambir-Garut), and Parahyangan (Gambir-Banjar).
History
[edit]The "Panoramic" train was introduced on 25 September 2022, at an open house event at the Surabaya Gubeng. According to Joni Martinus, Public Relations Officer of PT KAI, the panoramic train was designed to meet the needs of tourists seeking a more expansive view of Java's natural landscapes. By modifying an old executive train, the Surabaya Gubeng transformed the train's walls into glass panels.[2]
Design
[edit]This train has a capacity of 38 seats, with large, see-through glass windows on both sides and a roof that extends from front to back with an automatic opening and closing system for more freedom to enjoy the scenery. The train also features a sunroof.[2] The facilities on this train include luggage racks, mini bar, air conditioner (AC), television, electric plug, blankets, pillows, soft seats that can be adjusted as desired, Wi-Fi, as well as one free heavy meal and snack.
The "Panoramic" train series is served daily on intercity train services on the southern Java line, namely the Parahyangan train with the Gambir–Bandung, the Papandayan train with the Gambir–Garut, the Pangandaran train with the Gambir–Banjar, the Argo Wilis and the Turangga train with the Bandung–Surabaya Gubeng.
KAI Wisata, a subsidiary of KAI in the railway-based tourism sector, also provides Panoramic train rentals for tourism purposes.
