Microimage is a Sri Lankan-founded proprietary software company that specializes in Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions and media broadcasting software. Established in the mid-1990s as a high school startup, it has since evolved into a global provider of digital HR solutions under the brand MiHCM and broadcasting technology under the subsidiary Futura Tech Labs. The company is a long-standing Microsoft Independent Software Vendor (ISV) partner.[1]

History

[edit]

Microimage was founded by Harsha Purasinghe and a group of fellow students in 1993 as a hobbyist club while they were still in school. The venture was formally incorporated as Microimage (Pvt) Ltd in 1995.[2] The company's initial success came from developing local language software, specifically Sinhala fonts and localization tools, which allowed computers to process local languages before standardized Unicode support was widely available.[3]

In the 2000s, the company expanded its portfolio to include Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) and broadcasting automation. In 2013, Microimage spun off its mobile and media division into a separate entity to better focus on its distinct product lines.[4]

As the company began to expand globally, particularly into the ASEAN region, it rebranded its core HR business. In early 2019, the HR arm of the company, previously known as Microimage HCM, was rebranded as MiHCM.[5] In 2022, the media and broadcasting arm, Microimage Mobile Media, was rebranded as Futura Tech Labs and opened a headquarters in Singapore.[6]

Corporate structure and subsidiaries

[edit]

Microimage operates as a holding company with two primary business arms:

  • MiHCM (formerly Microimage HCM): This entity focuses on digital HR and Human Capital Management cloud platforms. It operates globally with a significant presence in Malaysia, Australia, and South Asia. MiHCM serves over 1,000 clients across 20 countries.[7]
  • Futura Tech Labs (formerly Microimage Mobile Media): This subsidiary develops software for the broadcast, media, and digital domains. It maintains an engineering base in Sri Lanka and commercial operations in Singapore.[6]

Products and services

[edit]

Human Capital Management (MiHCM)

[edit]

The company's flagship product is the MiHCM Cloud platform (formerly HCM Cloud). It is an enterprise-grade digital HR solution built on Microsoft Azure. The platform covers Core HR, payroll, time and attendance, and talent management. It also includes "MiA", an AI-powered virtual HR assistant for Microsoft Teams.[8]

Broadcasting and Media

[edit]

Through Futura Tech Labs, the company offers **mStudio**, a radio automation solution used by national broadcasters in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Brunei.[9] They also develop **vStation**, a television broadcasting suite.

Disaster Early Warning Network (DEWN)

[edit]

Following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Microimage developed the Disaster Early Warning Network (DEWN) in partnership with Dialog Axiata and the University of Moratuwa. DEWN is a mass alert system capable of disseminating emergency warnings via SMS and Cell Broadcast technology. It is currently used by Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Centre.[4][6]

Partnerships and awards

[edit]

Microimage is a Gold Certified Partner and an IP Co-Sell Ready partner for Microsoft. The company has received multiple awards for its software solutions:

  • **Microsoft ISV Partner of the Year:** The company has won this award multiple times, including in 2019 and 2020, for the South East Asia New Markets region.[1][10]
