Michael Yiming Huang[a] (Chinese Simplified: 迈克尔·易明·洪, born March 18, 1997), also known by his pseudonym Yoyle Cake[1], is an American YouTuber, voice actor, and animator, who alongside his twin brother, Cary Huang, co-created the indie-animated web series Battle for Dream Island.[2] He is known for also co-creating The Scale of the Universe with his brother, an interactive visualization tool about various objects within such size ranges.[3][4]
Early life and education
[edit]Michael Huang was born on March 18, 1997 in Moraga, California. He attended Camino Pablo Elementary School.[3][5] He studied film at the University of California Berkeley.[6]
Online career
[edit]HTwins.net
[edit]In 2005, Michael and Cary decided to make a website known as htwins.net. It was used to host homemade minigames the twins had made for fun.[7]
On February 4, 2008, Michael would begin uploading on the YouTube channel jacknjellify.[b][8]
Scale of the Universe
[edit]Sometime in 2010, Michael and Cary made an online visualization tool called The Scale of the Universe. It compares the smallest object to the largest object ever recorded, made into an online tool. The website was featured on NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day in 2018.[9][4] They made a sequel for the website called The Scale of the Universe 2.[10][11]
Battle for Dream Island
[edit]Somewhere in 2009, Michael and Cary began to work on the show after Cary made a fake catalog with characters in it. Michael was learning digital animation at the time, and said that he wanted to take Cary's characters and animate it.[12][6]
