Mark Holgate

Mark Holgate is a Scottish-born fashion journalist and magazine editor based in New York City.[1] Notably, he was American editir of Vogue for since the early 2000s, and his writing on runway coverage, designer interviews and the evolving intersection of youth culture and high fashion spans print and digital platforms.

Early life and education

Holgate was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and raised in a Scottish school-library environment where he first encountered issues of British Vogue and later he moved to London to pursue magazine work, gaining his early experience through internships and editorial roles in the city's fashion press.[1]

Holgate began his magazine career in London, working at British Vogue on fashion features and styling-oriented editorial content.[2] He subsequently joined New York magazine, where he served as a fashion director based in New York City, sharpened his footprint in American fashion journalism, and built relationships across both the U.K. and U.S. markets.[1]

Vogue and mainstream magazine roles

In the early 2000s Holgate joined the American edition of Vogue, initially as a staff writer and contributor.[2] By 2008 he was announced as the editor of Luxx, the quarterly style supplement of The Times in London, as well as style director of The Times Magazine.[2] He went on to become fashion news director at American Vogue, overseeing global fashion news coverage, runway editorial and designer intelligence across print, digital and social platforms.[3] His byline has appeared in multiple national and international editions of Vogue, including British, Scandinavian, Singapore and Philippines editions.[4][5] Holgate has also contributed to cultural-and-fashion commentary outlets beyond the magazine sphere, where his speciality remains the nexus of style, youth culture and media form.[6]

His commentary on the legacy of titles such as The Face, i‑D and PAPER magazine.[1][7][8]
