Background and conception

[edit]

At 18 years old, Dion released her second greatest hits album, Les chansons en or.[1] This compilation includes biggest hits of her previous five studio albums: La voix du bon Dieu (1981), Tellement j'ai d'amour... (1982), Les chemins de ma maison (1983), Mélanie (1984), and C'est pour toi (1985).[2] It features the number-one singles "D'amour ou d'amitié" and "Mon ami m'a quittée", and other top 10 hits: "Une colombe" (number two), "Tellement j'ai d'amour pour toi" (number three), "C'est pour toi" (number three), "Mon rêve de toujours" (number four), and Dion's debut single "Ce n'était qu'un rêve" (number eight).[3][4] The album also includes the original composition, "Fais ce que tu voudras", with lyrics by Eddy Marnay and music by René Grignon, a young Quebec composer who had sent a demo of the song to Dion's management a few months before.[1] "Fais ce que tu voudras" reached number 36 in Quebec and the music video, directed by François Girard, was nominated for Video of the Year at the Félix Awards in 1987.[5][6]
