Kripalu Balika Intermediate College (KBIC) is a charitable educational institution for girls located in Kunda, Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Established in 1978 by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj, the college provides 100% free secular education to underprivileged girls from Class 6 to Class 12. It is affiliated with the Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh.[1]
Background
[edit]Kunda is situated in one of the most educationally backward regions of India, where poverty and illiteracy are widespread. Due to socio-economic hardships, many families prioritize survival over education, particularly the education of girls. In such a context, Kripalu Balika Intermediate College was founded to offer access to education to girls who would otherwise be denied this basic right.[2]
Establishment and mission
[edit]The institution was established in 1978 with the objective of promoting girls’ education in rural Uttar Pradesh, where schools for girls were almost non-existent at the time. KBIC operates under the auspices of Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat (JKP), a charitable trust founded by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj in 1970. The college offers completely free education, including uniforms, books, and other essentials, to every enrolled student.
Academics
[edit]Kripalu Balika Intermediate College is affiliated with the Uttar Pradesh Board (Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad) and follows its prescribed curriculum. The college caters to students from Class 6 to Class 12. Over the years, the institution has consistently produced excellent academic results, with 100% of its students securing first division in board examinations since 2008.[3]
To promote holistic development, KBIC regularly conducts various extracurricular activities. These include cultural programs, music and dance classes, art and craft workshops, yoga sessions, and sports events. Regular competitions like essay writing, storytelling, and elocution encourage public speaking and critical thinking skills.
Affiliated institutions
[edit]KBIC is part of the larger network of educational institutions founded by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj:[4]
- Kripalu Balika Primary School: Established in 2007, this institution offers education from Nursery to Class 5.
- Kripalu Mahila Mahavidyalaya: Founded in 1998, it provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Education, and Master of Arts in Hindi and Home Science.
Together, these three institutions provide free education to around 5,000 girls in rural Uttar Pradesh from primary to Post Graduate courses.
Leadership
[edit]The institution was overseen by Dr. Vishakha Tripathi, President of Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat till 2024.[5]
It is currently led by her younger sisters and fellow JKP Presidents Dr. Shyama Tripathi and Dr. Krishna Tripathi.[6]
