Jupiter Airlines was a defunct airline based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, that operated from 1996 to 2010. The airline provided both passenger and cargo services, focusing on charter operations within the Middle East and Africa.[1]

History

[edit]

Jupiter Airlines was established in 1996 as a General Sales Agent (GSA) and cargo broker in Sharjah. Over time, it expanded its operations to include passenger services. In 2003, the airline was restructured under Jupiter Holdings, which also oversees Jupiter Cargo Services and other logistics ventures. The airline operated from Dubai International Airport using a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft.[2]

The airline commenced scheduled passenger flights in December 2004 with a route between Dubai and Baghdad, Iraq. Services were later introduced to other Iraqi cities, including Mosul in February 2009 and Basra.[3]

Fleet

Jupiter Airlines operated a variety of aircraft:

  • Boeing 737-400 – cargo operations
  • Boeing 737-700 – passenger services
  • Ilyushin Il-76TD – cargo freight
  • Boeing 747-300 – occasional large cargo shipments

Operations and destinations

[edit]

The airline's operations were primarily centered around the Middle East and parts of Africa. It provided both scheduled and charter flights, including services to Baghdad, Mosul, and Basra.[5]

Cessation of operations

[edit]

Jupiter Airlines ceased operations in 2010. The exact reasons for its closure are not publicly documented, though factors such as regional instability and competition in the Middle Eastern aviation market may have contributed.[6]
