Jacaranda Records is an independent record store in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
Headquartered at The Jacaranda, the 1958 venue credited with launching The Beatles on their early careers,[1] the company is known for operating two record store and live music venue hybrids within the Liverpool city centre, as well as having established a now defunct label of the same name in 2018.[2]
History
[edit]Founded by Graham Stanley who took over as managing director in 2014[3] amidst the 2010s vinyl revival boom, the store opened in June 2015 on the first floor of the Jacaranda's Slater Street venue following a six month period of refurbishment. Historically the same space was previously occupied in the 1950s by jazz record store Syd’s Disk Den.[4]
In November 2018 British music producer Ray Mia[5] approached Stanley in collaborating to form a record label with plans to open a record plant[6] and recording studio[7] under the Jacaranda Records name. Three months later construction began on the company's first immersive audio facility as part of Mia's vision for the label.[8]
In the summer of 2019, the label signed Liverpool acts Spilt and Shards on 10 year contracts,[9][10] signing singer-songwriter Aimée Steven by the end of that year.[11] Tales From The Jacaranda Volume 01, a label compilation featuring contributions from Spilt, Shards and Steven as well as newer signees Dust Monk, The Phil Jones Experience and mrmmr, was released in 2022.[12] Jacaranda's most recent signee Waiting Till Marriage released their debut single on the label later the same year.[13] The label has since been closed with an application for dissolution being submitted in 2025,[14] amid accusations directed at Mia of improper management.[2]
The record store celebrated its 10 year anniversary in July 2025.[3]
Venues & Record Stores
[edit]Jacaranda Records operates two live music venues and vinyl record stores in Liverpool, and was shortlisted for Music Week's Independent Retailer of The Year award in 2020.[15] Managing director Graham Stanley also heads 'Out Of Phase Events', a Liverpool based booking, promotion and marketing agency.[16]
The Jacaranda (21-23 Slater Street, Liverpool L1 4BW)
Originally opened by Allan Williams in 1958, The Jacaranda provided both rehearsal space and a stage for John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison & Stuart Sutcliffe to perform for the first time as The Silver Beetles. Refurbished in 2014,[17] the 60-year-old music hub still contains murals painted by Sutcliffe & Lennon and continues to operate as a bar, record shop and live music venue.
Jacaranda Phase One (40 Seel Street, Liverpool L1 4BE)
Opened to create a larger, 180-capacity pop-up live music venue in May 2018, the venue enjoyed five years of operation as both a record store and live music venue before closing on New Year's Eve in 2023.[3]
Jacaranda Baltic (Unit 2 Cains Brewery Village, Liverpool L8 5XJ)
Established in January 2024 as a relaunch of Phase One, the Baltic branch was opened in Liverpool's Baltic Triangle as part of a similar goal in operating a record store and live music venue hybrid.[18]
