Helcim Inc. is a Canadian financial technology company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. The firm provides payment processing and related software to small and medium-sized businesses in Canada and the United States.[1][2]

History

Helcim was founded in Calgary by software developer and entrepreneur Nic Beique in 2006, initially focusing on online payments for small businesses before expanding into in-person acceptance.[3]

In March 2022 the company raised a Series A financing of C$16 million led by Information Venture Partners and Aquiline Technology Growth to support product development and hiring in Calgary.[4]

Helcim introduced a wireless card-present device branded the Smart Terminal in 2023 to serve merchants that accept chip and tap payments alongside its software tools.[5]

In February 2024 Helcim closed a Series B round of approximately C$27 million led by Headline with participation from Clocktower Ventures, Vesey Ventures and others, stating plans to expand its payments stack for underserved small businesses across North America.[1]

In October 2025 Helcim entered a distribution partnership with Verizon for the telecom’s U.S. small business marketplace and the company had recorded three-year revenue growth of 743 percent, appearing on The Globe and Mail Report on Business list of Canada’s Top Growing Companies for 2025.[2][6]

Helcim provides card-present and online payment processing, invoicing and recurring billing, and related merchant software. The company offers a proprietary payment terminal for in-person acceptance and positions its pricing on an interchange-plus model for Canadian and U.S. merchants.[5][7]
