The ₹16.21 billion (US$190 million) project was approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu in June 2020 and was planned to be built by the National Highways Authority of India.[2] The highway was inaugurated in October 2025, and was renamed after Indian inventor G. D. Naidu.[3]
