File:Sol Hoopii-Fascinatin' Rhythm.ogg

Summary

[edit]

A short music sample of an instrumental version of the song "Fascinating Rhythm" written by George and Ira Gershwin in 1924 and therefore believed to be in the public domain. It is used in the article Lap steel guitar. The origin of the recording is a compilation album of music by Hawaiian guitarist Sol Hoopii recorded in 1938 but re-released in 1987 as Master of the Hawaiian Guitar Vol.2 on Rounder Records (Cat.#1025). The 1938 version by Hoopii has been added to the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry of "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important" American sound recordings. The purpose the file's use is to complement a historical discussion of Hoopii's playing style. It is a sample of about 30 seconds from a much longer recording, and could not be used as a substitute for the original commercial recording or to recreate the original recording. As a sample from a copyrighted musical recording, the sample is not replaceable by free content; any other sample from the same recording would also be copyrighted, and any version that is not true to the original would be inadequate for identification or commentary. It is not replaceable with an uncopyrighted or freely copyrighted sample of comparable educational value. Use of the sample in the article is understood to be compatible with Wikipedia non-free content policy and fair use under United States copyright law as described above. Use of this sample outside of Wikipedia may be subject to other terms.
