Rupert D'Oyly Carte with his opera company onstage at the Prince's Theatre in 1926 after the last night of his London season. The front row, from left, is Bertha Lewis, Carte, Lady Gilbert, Henry Lytton, Lady Dorothy Carte (Rupert's wife in profile and fur coat), Winifred Lawson in white dress trimmed with white fur, Darrell Fancourt and Aileen Davies. Peeking over Lewis's shoulder is Eleanor Evans. Behind Lady Gilbert is Beatrice Elburn (with just eyes and nose visible). Behind Lytton, over his right shoulder with round spectacles, is Leo Sheffield; over his left shoulder is Malcolm Sargent. Blossom Gelsthorpe peeks over Fancourt's shoulder. At right, the tall older man is Frank B. O'Neill. |
