Emelia Arthur is a Ghanaian politician and a former deputy Western Regional Minister of Ghana.[1] She was appointed by President John Evan Atta Mills and served till January 2013.[citation needed] In December 2024 she won the parliamentary election as the National Democratic Congress (Ghana) candidate in the Shama constituency of the Western Region of Ghana, with 57% of the votes cast.[2]
Arthur has expressed concern over the decline of Ghana's marine and inland fisheries resources, emphasizing the need for urgent action to support aquaculture as a sustainable alternative.[3]
She has also pledged to address the European Union's concerns over illegal fishing activities, which have led to Ghana receiving a “Yellow Card” warning[3]
Political career
