Easkey GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Easkey, County Sligo, Ireland. The club is affiliated to the Sligo County Board and fields teams in both hurling and Gaelic football.
History
[edit]Located in the village of Easkey, about 26 miles from Sligo, Easkey GAA Club held it's first informal meeting on 15 January 1888. A second meeting was held two weeks later and the club was officially formed.[1] The newly-created club was one of five that took part in the inaugural Longford SFC.[2]
Easkey's first major successes came when the club won three consecutive Sligo SFC titles between 1935 and 1937.[3] Further such titles were claimed in 1941 and 1966. In spite of a lack of senior success, Easkey claimed a number of Sligo JFC titles, as well as a Connacht Club JFC title in 2018.[4] The club also leads the Sligo IFC roll of honour, with six titles won between 1982 and 2023.[5]
In terms of hurling, Easkey won consecutive Sligo SHC titles in 1962 and 1963.[6] Hurling declined in the club in the decades that followed, however, an adult team was reinstated after a 35-year lapse in 2018.[7] Since then, Easkey has become a dominant presence and has won six consecutive Sligo SHC titles between 2020 and 2025.[8] The club has also won four consecutive Connacht Club JHC titles during this time, but was beaten by Ballgiblin in the 2023 All-Ireland Club JHC final.[9][10]
