Draft talk:Johansen International Competition for Young String Players

Regarding the notability of this competition

[edit]

This article was originally rejected for lack of significant coverage in secondary sources. This was despite a reference to a feature article on this competition, as well as two articles mentioning its winners, in the Washington Post newspaper, which is a highly reputable source.

The notability of this competition is further supported by the fact that its winners sometimes include it in their biographies and other publicity materials, and it is mentioned in some press coverage of its winners. I have added several more references to the latter, mainly in The Strad and The Violin Channel, which are news outlets covering the classical music industry. If these additions are insufficient I would appreciate some additional help.

There are articles on other music competitions that are public despite having fewer independent references than this one, sometimes no independent references at all. These led me to believe that the sources in my original article were more than adequate. Just a few examples:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA_International_Harp_Competition has references only to the competition's web site.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsor_Festival_International_String_Competition has only three references, two of which are from The Strad.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore_International_Violin_Competition has references to its own web site as well as The Strad and The Violin Channel.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Violin_Competition_Henri_Marteau has a notice that it refers excessively to primary sources, but despite that notice it is being allowed to stand. Vhmatthe (talk) 21:04, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
