Zimele Spiritual Institute is a South African non-profit organisation based in Potchefstroom, North West Province. Established on 23 June 2020, the institute serves as a centre of referral and learning, focusing on spiritual guidance, counselling, community development, and poverty alleviation. It combines African traditional spiritual practice with modern approaches to social support and was recognised for community work by the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality.[1]
History
[edit]Zimele Spiritual Institute was founded to provide spiritual, psychosocial, and practical support to vulnerable members of the Potchefstroom community. In 2016 the institute received a Special Honour Certificate from the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality for contributions to community welfare.[2]
Programs and activities
[edit]The institute runs programmes in spiritual guidance and mentorship, counselling services, poverty alleviation (food/clothing distribution), women's health and midwifery training (Mmelegisi), herbalism, and community development projects. It engages volunteers including clergy, traditional healers, retired healthcare professionals and teachers. Structure
[edit]Zimele is supported by a volunteer team made up of priests, spiritual trainees, retired professional nurses, a retired social worker, retired teachers, and community members.
Partnerships
[edit]Zimele Spiritual Institute has partnered with local organisations and media to deliver services, notably Aganang Community Radio Station and local social development offices.
