Youqing (Chinese: 有庆) Town is under the jurisdiction of Qu County, Dazhou City, Sichuan Province. It was originally named Wujiachang （Chinese: 吴家场）, and its market and streets were established during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. Youqing Town is located in the southern part of Qu County, 17 kilometers from the county seat and 6 kilometers from Dingyuan Township. National Highway 318 runs through the territory. It serves as the southern gateway from northeastern Sichuan to the hinterland of central Sichuan.
The terrain is low and flat, dominated by shallow hills. The town administers 9 administrative villages, 105 agricultural cooperatives, 1 street residents' committee, and 6 residents' groups. The town has a total population of 24,285 (2017). The total cultivated land area is 17,506 mu, with a total area of 27 square kilometers.
On December 18, 2019, according to the Reply of the Sichuan Provincial People's Government on Approving the Adjustment of Some Township Administrative Divisions in 5 Counties (Districts) including Tongchuan District, Dazhou City (Chuan Fu Min Zheng [2019] No. 21): The administrative areas of Pingxi Community, Yunlong Village, and Longwei Village from the former Pingxi Township, the entire former Jiahe Township, and Guiba Village, Tiaodeng Village, Taishan Village, and Taiyang Village from the former Shehong Township were placed under the jurisdiction of Youqing Town. The Youqing Town People's Government is located at No. 36 Wujia Street.[1]
Infrastructure
[edit]The town has 21 kilometers of national, provincial, and county roads, and over 120 kilometers of village and community roads. There are 15 streets and alleys with a total length of 7.8 kilometers. The town has over 10,000 program-controlled telephone lines and over 5,000 mobile phones. It has built microwave towers and TV relay stations, with television coverage reaching 100%.
The water plant has a daily water supply capacity of 500 tons. There is one national power supply station and one 1,000-kilowatt transformer substation, as well as one power generation station connected to the county power grid. A natural gas station has been built, serving nearly 1,000 households. Seven specialized markets have been established, among which the timber market has become the largest timber distribution center in the eastern Sichuan region.
Natural Conditions
[edit]The town has a subtropical monsoon humid climate with abundant rainfall, moderate sunshine, and rich resources, suitable for growing various economic crops. Among these, the green-skinned winter melons and Sichuan pepper forests of Changchun Village, the daylilies of Diema Village, and the rapeseed and watermelons of Pingtan Village are particularly outstanding, becoming characteristic agricultural products of Youqing Town.
The green-skinned winter melons of Changchun Village are high-quality varieties purchased at premium prices. Each winter melon can weigh 70-90 jin (35-45 kg), with yields exceeding 100,000 jin per mu (approximately 50,000 kg per acre). They have excellent flavor and are eagerly purchased by merchants from surrounding counties and cities. The Sichuan pepper forests cover 50,000-60,000 trees and are currently in the young forest stage, expected to bear fruit and generate income after one year. Diema Village is located on sloping land suitable for growing daylilies. The daylilies here have large flowers and long stems, unmatched anywhere else in the country, becoming a major feature of Youqing and even Qu County.
Pingtan Village has more mountainous terrain with fertile sandy soil. The rapeseed grown here produces large fruits with plump seeds and high oil yield. Farmers cultivate high-quality rapeseed on a large scale, actively developing the rural economy.
The special soil quality here is also ideal for watermelons. The watermelons grown are large and sweet with good sales, ensuring income for farmers. Additionally, Diema Village, Pingtan Village, Longdong Village, Huamei Village, and Junying Village in the town have abundant stone resources, all consisting of hard bluestone that makes excellent building material. With convenient transportation, these resources await large-scale extraction. The four major reservoirs—Jiulong, Tuanjie, Shengli, and Yuejin—have abundant water resources suitable for integrated aquaculture, with extremely broad prospects.
Transportation Development
[edit]The town has convenient transportation, especially after the reconstruction of National Road 318, which has reduced travel time from Qu County to Youqing to just over 20 minutes. The town possesses abundant natural gas resources with multiple gas wells, rich bluestone resources suitable for large-scale quarrying, plentiful water resources that can support integrated aquaculture, and can also leverage its transportation advantages to vigorously develop livestock and poultry farming.
