The World Literacy Council represents over two hundred literacy organizations around the world. Since 2010, the World Literacy Council has with the World Literacy Foundation jointly sponsored the World Literacy Summit, held at Oxford University every two years. The World Literacy Summit is possibly the premier literacy conference, and is attended by more than five hundred delegates and more than 40,000 views online. Dr. Tony Cree is the Chair of the World Literacy Council and also founded the World Literacy Awards which are presented at the Sheldonian Theatre..
The awards include Academic and Scientific research, individual achievement, achievement by an organization and national achievement. Most recently, the 2025 National Award went to the Government of the Philippines[1]. The award has been presented by Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands and is hosted by Dr. Tony Cree.
