Trade Nation is an international online brokerage firm that provides trading in contracts for difference (CFDs), foreign exchange (forex), and spread betting.
Trade Nation is regulated in multiple jurisdictions and is headquartered in London, with additional operations in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Nassau, Mahé, and Lisbon.
The company was founded in 2012 as Qwote Capital and has undergone several rebrandings and structural changes, including Finsa Pty Ltd and the Core Spreads brand. Trade Nation expanded internationally, establishing licensed entities in Australia, South Africa, the Bahamas, Seychelles, and Portugal.
It consolidated regional brands under the Trade Nation identity in 2020 and has experienced regulatory developments and leadership changes, including a CEO transition in 2025.
History
[edit]2012–2014: Early years
Trade Nation began as Qwote Capital in 2012, when it was issued an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL). The company was renamed Finsa Pty Ltd in 2013 and started operations with a small dealing desk team. Later that year, the company secured £5 million in funding and formed partnerships with Trade Direct 365 and Blackstone Futures.
In 2014, Finsa Europe Ltd was created following the acquisition of The Trader Management Company Ltd, an FCA-regulated firm. Partnerships with PIP Index and Capital Index were established shortly thereafter.
2015–2018: Expansion and regulatory developments
In 2015, the company launched the Core Spreads brand, moving from a business-to-business model to direct-to-customer trading. Stuart Lane was appointed CEO of Finsa Europe Ltd in 2016, and the Core Spreads brand was expanded.[1] By 2017, the firm’s FCA licence had been upgraded to a £730,000 capital requirement.
2019–2020: New jurisdictions
In February 2019, Trade Nation Financial (Pty) Ltd was licensed in South Africa as a joint venture with Blackstone Futures. In April 2019, Trade Nation Ltd was incorporated in the Bahamas, and later that year, business from Blackstone Futures was transferred to Trade Nation Financial (Pty) Ltd.
In 2020, the Trade Nation brand was introduced as a global identity, consolidating regional brands. Licensing in the Bahamas was secured in March 2020.[2]
2021–present: Consolidation and leadership changes
Following product intervention rules in Australia in 2021, Trade Nation Ltd became the hub for rest-of-world business. In April 2025, Stuart Lane stepped down as CEO and was succeeded by Jon Noble.[3][4]
